Nylon is an extremely versatile material and is easily affordable. This makes nylon a material we will never forget, which raises the question: will it be used in the future. Nylon is a fibre not a chip so it can be utilized in many large industries such as the clothing industry where they can use it as a stronger, cheaper and more durable alternative to wool or cotton. This concludes that wool and cotton will not be replacing nylon any time soon, but Nylon does also have some negative effects. When creating Nylon harmful oxides are released into the atmosphere as waste and the oxides (especially nitrous oxides) contribute to the deterioration of the stratospheric ozone because they are powerful greenhouse gases. When disposing of nylon, it usually goes to the landfill like all other plastic like materials do, but it is proven that nylon has a much slower decay rate then other synthetically made materials do. Scientists have tried other methods to dispose of nylon such as disintegration, but burning nylon just released even more harmful materials into the atmosphere. With the scientific minds of today humans will find an alternative to nylon is cheaper, environmentally friendly and more durable polymer.
