Nylon is not like materials such as iron, wood and wood because it is not found in nature, instead it has to be made with chemicals. Nylon is a polymer and is created by reacting two large molecules together at a adequate heat (around 285'C) and applying pressure using a reaction kettle, called an autoclave. The two starting molecules are hexane-1,6-dicarboxylic acid (or adipic acid) and 1,6-diaminohexane (or hexamethylenediamine) and when the two elements are combined to make a larger molecule they start a chemical reaction known as condensation polymerization (where water is created as a by-product of the chemical reaction, which needs to be distilled and removed for the development of polymers to be fully successful.. The large molecule forms a polymer which is the most common type of nylon, nylon-6,6 because it is made from two molecules that both have 6 carbon atoms.
Nylon is basically threads of plastic yarn; it is a fibre, and it is used in many items of clothing. It is also used for making parachutes and ropes. People in the modern age often refer to lingerie as nylon instead because it is the most common material in women fashion items and most wedding dresses.
